Family-run with Heart – for Generations
In 1993, the hotel, newly built by Albert and Christa Graf, opened directly opposite the historic country inn. With great personal commitment and attention to detail, they created a modern place for well-being – in the immediate vicinity of the Alter Wirt.
Since 2001, Bernhard Graf, their son and now the owner, has been managing the hotel in the second generation – with the aim of continuing tradition and hospitality in a contemporary manner. The hotel and inn complement each other perfectly – thus creating a harmonious overall experience for business guests, holidaymakers, and celebrants.
During the hotel renovation in spring 2017, the individual charm of the rooms was preserved, and comfort and indoor climate were improved. The rooms are equipped with allergy-friendly sheep’s wool carpets from Great Britain and high-quality fabrics from JAB Anstoetz; the natural alder wood furniture has been retained.

The Alter Wirt – as Old as the District of Goldach Itself
The “Alter Wirt” is far more than just an inn – it is a piece of local history. Its roots date back to 1865, when Joseph Strobl presented the plans for the building on February 25, 1865 – at a time when the name Goldach officially did not even exist. At that time, it was listed as House No. 1.
The ground floor already featured a common room, a guest room, a kitchen with a cellar, two chambers, and a bedroom. The current banquet hall on the upper floor was originally divided into another common room and a dance floor. Today’s common room largely still corresponds to the original floor plan from 1865 – an authentic experience for all who visit us.
Goldach itself officially came into being only in 1871, when the place name first appeared in the tax cadastre. Shortly thereafter, the Alter Wirt changed owners several times – until it was acquired and expanded by Actienbrauerei Freising in 1884. In 1914, the property finally passed to Countess Sophie von Moy de Sous, née Arco von Stepperg.
Since 2022, the Alter Wirt has been supplied by the traditional Augustiner Bräu Munich – the city’s oldest brewery and a symbol of Bavarian beer culture. The selection is complemented by chosen beers from the Franziskaner Brewery, particularly popular for its wheat beer specialties. Whether in the hall, the common room, or the beer garden: Our guests have since enjoyed freshly tapped Augustiner Helles, Franziskaner Weißbier, and seasonal classics – honestly brewed, regionally rooted, and perfectly matched to our Bavarian cuisine.
To this day, the long history can be felt in every corner of the house. As one of the oldest and most traditional places in the community, the Alter Wirt remains a popular meeting point – for locals, guests from all over the world, and all who appreciate genuine Bavarian inn culture.

Excellent Restaurant – Renowned beyond District Borders
In 1937, Simon and Therese Abstreiter leased the inn with a butcher shop and farm from Ernst Graf von Moy. On August 8, 1955, they fully acquired the property. In 1971, their daughter Christa Graf and her husband Albert Graf finally took over the economic management with great dedication. Since then, the inn has been continuously leased.
From the late 1980s onwards, the Alter Wirt became widely known beyond the district borders through Heinz Kirchbauer – with a cuisine that quickly gained an excellent reputation in the region. Monika Gruber also reports on this formative period in her book “Man muss das Kind im Dorf lassen” (You have to leave the child in the village), in which she writes:
“My first stage was the large hall of the Alter Wirt in Goldach. Heinz Kirchbauer let me do my thing. I served there and later had my first performances.”
A fine testament to the fact that the Alter Wirt was and remains a significant establishment in the region, not only culinarily but also culturally. Since the 1990s, dozens of cabaret artists and musicians have graced the stage of the Alter Wirt. For many, it was a springboard to a great career.
Another highlight followed in January 2011, when the internationally experienced master chef Stefan Fuß took over the country inn. With his creative, artisan-inspired cuisine, he set new standards. The awarding of the renowned Bib Gourmand by the Guide Michelin underscored this claim – a sign of outstanding cuisine with excellent value for money.
Since November 2016, Violanda Aliu has continued to run the country inn, offering traditional Bavarian cuisine and international delicacies.
